Catastrophone (2023)

Why are digital instruments so often created using unsustainable materials? Is it possible to design a large digital instrument from eco-friendly materials? These are the questions I had in mind when designing Catastrophone.

Catastrophone is a new large digital musical instrument that is gesturally performed using mallets or hands. It is two metres wide and tall. It is created using recycled cardboard and paper, specifically collaged images of cats -- hence the name!

Catastrophone has been shown and performed at:

  • The Science Museum, London - October 2023

  • The Albany, London - October 2023

  • Cafe Oto, London - November 2023

  • IKLECTIK, London - January 2024

Upcoming Catastrophone performances and exhibitions:

  • Project DIVFUSE, London, 5th-6th of October 2024: Lia Mice solo exhibition - Tickets

  • 15 Years Of Chaos, Signature Brewery Walthamstow, 1 March 2025: Lia Mice + guests live performance - Tickets
