The Catastrophone (2023)

Why are digital instruments so often created using unsustainable materials? Is it possible to design a large digital instrument from eco-friendly materials? These are the questions I had in mind when designing The Catastrophone.

The Catastrophone is a new large digital musical instrument that is gesturally performed using mallets or hands. It is 2 metres wide and tall. It is created using recycled cardboard and paper, specifically collaged images of cats, hence the name!
